Here's hoping George wins this time! (even though SoS was a better book) :)

It would be embarrassing if ADWD won. It would make the award seem like a popularity contest. Books 1-3 of ASOIAF was great, but ADWD isn’t it the same class. 1000 pages of wheel spinning, followed by cheap cliff hangers.

Everybody always focuses on the novels and ignores the rest, and I can't entirely blame them, but I feel the need to point out that the Scalzi nominee for best short story was an April Fool's joke!

If you don't think that's ridiculous yet, just go ahead and read the first sentence of Scalzi's story here: http://www.tor.com/stories/2011/04/the-shadow-war-of-the-night-dragons-book-one-the-dead-city-excerpt

And if you still don't find it ridiculous, check out Scalzi's reaction to the nomination here: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2012/04/07/hugo-nomination-thoughts-2012/

I love Scalzi, but a hugo nomination?!? If this wins, I may kill myself from laughing too hard...

I'm a little sad that Ready Player One by Ernest Cline wasn't nominated.

I voted for Ready Player One and it didn't make the shortlist, so I share your disappointment, Shane. In fact nothing I voted for in the Best Novel category did.

Martin nominated is laughable. I mean the same year saw The Crippled God and The Heroes. Both much much stronger than Martin's turtle stew.

It's a red-letter year - I've actually read one of the nominated novels, and seen two (2!) of the nominated films.

Should have been the Heroes.

Leviathan Wakes was a fantastic book. Can't wait for the next one in the series.
